Electronic Thesis & Dissertations

An ETD is an openly-accessible electronic version of your thesis or dissertation that will be kept by Duke University Libraries instead of a bound paper copy. The transition to ETDs is a cooperative effort between The Graduate School and the library.

EBSCO Open Dissertations is an online website database that mainly focuses on the dissertations of different subjects. It is an innovative approach for authors and participating institutions whose desire is to have open-access materials available and discoverable to many end-users inside and outside of the academic institutions. This is a collaboration between EBSCO and BiblioLabs with a goal of bringing discoverability to ETD research worldwide at no cost to the university or the student.

Virginia Tech is the world leader and pioneer in electronic theses and dissertations (ETD). Currently thousands of pre-1997 theses and dissertations were digitized as VTechworks and have been fully available to the public. This institution’s graduates produce, prepare, submit, review, and publish the theses and dissertation are able to append digital media such as images, data, audio, and video.

EThOS is a British Library database that aims to demonstrate the quality of UK research by maximizing the availability of UK's doctoral research theses. It aims to provide free access to the full text of many theses for the use of other researchers to further their own research. EThOS is continuously developing for the benefit of both participating institutions and the users. There are over 600,000 doctoral theses that can be downloaded or scanned.

​HERDIN PLUS is a health research information management platform that was established through the partnership of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development (DOST-PCHRD), the Department of Health, and the University of the Philippines-Manila. This one stop health research information system gathers, manages, and disperses health-related research information to upgrade its dissemination in the country, especially among Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) and Research and Development Institutions (RDIs). Researchers can completely access and request the Filipiniana health research articles in full text, focusing on biomedical research, epidemiological studies, health services research, studies of behavior, social, and economic factors that affect. These local health journals can be accessed for free, without the need for an account, and through the Online Document Delivery Request. 

The Networked Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations (NDLTD), which began in 1987 and was launched in 1996, is a collaborative initiative involving more than 120 universities from across the world. This international organization is dedicated to the creation, distribution, and preservation of electronic theses and dissertations from academic institutions throughout the world.  It strives to improve the abilities of all graduate students creating theses or dissertations, so they can generate an electronic thesis or dissertation (ETD) and efficiently use digital libraries. It is rapidly increasing as a consequence of local, state, regional, national, and worldwide activities. Moreover, over a million electronic theses and dissertations are available through the NDLTD Union Catalog.

The OhioLINK Electronic Theses and Dissertation (ETD) Center is an open access, online database of theses and dissertations of undergraduate, master, and doctoral degree from OhioLINK ETD Center member institutions. There are abstracts available, as well as full-text whenever available. Over 58,000 theses and dissertations from students at 31 of Ohio's world-renowned academic  institutions are housed in OhioLINK Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETD). Google Scholar awarded OhioLINK in 2012 for making ETD open-access information more accessible. In 2015, researchers from all over the world downloaded more than six million theses and dissertations from Ohio's university institutions.

The University of Birmingham eTheses Repository is an online service developed to host the full text of PhD and other research theses produced by research postgraduate students of the university. Each material in the archive is available and accessible to be browsed, searched, read, or printed by patrons interested in its content. Together with theses awarded in 2019 onwards and the growing collection of older theses, this repository welcomes the submissions from students who have pursued and gained PhD from the university.

Housing more than 10 million volumes and providing access to the latest digital journals, databases and web resources, the university has committed to building one of the greatest library collections in the world. These libraries collect and preserve the first achievements of human knowledge in support of the exploration of ideas and intellectual innovation.
